This act is practiced within schools to create a flawless foundation that aids with excellent academic success. Provided by teachers, it is used to improve health and wellbeing of students to create a better learning environment.
Why is pastoral care in schools important?
The importance of pastoral care in schools comes as something that should be considered heavily before looking at sending a child there. A school that values this will place their pastoral care at the centre of operations. Good pastoral care in school can actually aid to the development of character and skills that will be needed further on in life. Programmes such as PSHE, which teach life skills based on personal, social, health and economic help with this too.
Academic progress is a great way to understand quality of care within a school. Identifying relations between teacher and student is a direct sign of how well the system is working. Mental health is a topic that many touch on but struggle to aid with. Pastoral care allows systems to be set in stone to allow students to feel comfortable and safe to voice how they feel. Furthermore, teachers undergo training to be able to notice if there is a problem with an individual student and how to tackle it.
Programmes are introduced to ensure students learn to be as happy and healthy as possible whilst learning. Positive programmes allow teachers to find a better approach to learning where students will feel heard, understood and comfortable in the environment they are learning in. It starts from the core of the school and works its way out to the students. The better the pastoral care, the better the grades, the mood and the overall school experience.
