Five top tips to help if you’re moving to a new State

If you’re planning on moving to a new state, whether you’re relocating or simply want a fresh start somewhere new, there’s a lot to think about. A move can be exciting with the promise of a new beginning, but it can also bring some challenges your way.

This is a guest post in collaboration with Alycia Coloma.

While no one knows the future, there are ways to ensure a smooth and successful move to a new state. Use the 5 tips below to help you avoid moving disasters as you move into the next chapter of your life.

1. Find your moving company

As soon as you have a move-in date, get started on booking professionals you can trust. For example, if you know you’ll need to book moving services Chicago in a few months, do so long before your move-in date. Leaving this vital step to the last minute could mean finding yourself with no company to help you transport your belongings to your new home.

Remember, do your research so you can avoid unreliable moving companies that break and lose your valuable belongings.

2. Look for a new place

As soon as you know you’ll be relocating to a new state, it’s time to start looking into a new place to live. Whether you take a trip to the city you’ll be living in or work with a real estate agent online to find the right spot for you, it’s wise to make finding a new home a priority long before you get started on anything else in the process.

The last thing you want is a packed-up home with nowhere to move to. This can also help you decide if you should sell old furniture to invest in new furniture in your new home. Reducing the amount of items you’re taking with you could help you save money on additional moving trucks.

3. Plan a budget for moving to a new State

From lodging as you travel from one city to another to the supplies you’ll need to pack up your home, there’s a lot to prepare for. An important aspect of preparing for an out of state move is the budget you’ll need. Planning your budget before your move to another state allows you to know what you can save money on and what you should be investing in.

4. Schedule carefully

You’ll want to carefully schedule everything that has to do with your move, as before you know it, your move date will get closer, and you’ll feel like there simply isn’t enough time to get it all done. This includes making time to say your goodbyes to friends and loved ones in the city and setting packing times every week, so that when it’s time to head out to the new destination, everything is ready to go. Use a planner or the calendar on your phone to help organize everything you need to do.

5. Prepare for your arrival when moving to a new State

From the utilities needing to be set up so you can use the internet and have electricity in your new home to packing in such a way that you can easily get your home set up when you arrive, it’s wise to think ahead when you are moving to a new state.

A home inventory and moving checklist can help you get everything ready for your new life. This includes scheduling a visit to the DMV upon arrival to your new state since you’re going to need an updated license.

In conclusion

When you’re moving to a new state, a little more planning and preparation is required than if you were moving in the same city. From needing to update your license to canceling utility providers in your current city, there’s a lot to prepare for to set up your new home. Don’t sweat it; with a moving plan in place and possibly professional organizing help, you can have a smooth, successful move to a whole new place.
