Having children might have been one of your goals in life. However, it can feel like time passes incredibly quickly. Before you know it, your children have celebrated their first birthday. From here, it may seem like they are ageing rapidly before your eyes. While you might not be able to stop the passage of time, you may be able to find ways to make the most of the years you have, and even make peace with fact that they are growing up.
This is a collaborative post
One of the first ways you may be able to make yourself feel better about them growing up so quickly can be to document your child’s progression from a baby right up to adulthood. Having some good quality family photos can be a way of achieving this, however, they may be no good to you stored on a memory card.
Document your children growing up
Instead, you might want to order yourself these canvas prints using those very same photos. This way, you can display your favourite family images throughout your home. This can also allow you to create a collage of numerous prints that can tell somewhat of a story about your child’s life so far. You might want to have some pictures of the child on their own, with siblings, and with each of their parents. These can also be nice keepsakes for your child to take with them when they eventually move out of the family home.
That being said, you might want to make sure you don’t spend all of your time behind the lens of a camera or your phone screen. While this may mean that you miss out on living in the moment with your children, it can also have some negative consequences on their development and future interactions. In fact, they may be three times as likely to have a bad experience with an online platform in the future in comparison to a child whose parents were more present. You can still take the odd photo, or have a little scroll through your apps, but you may want to be more mindful of enjoying each moment.
Be proud of yourself
As your children grow, it can be tempting to feel sad that time has passed that you will never get back. While this may be true, you might also want to consider feeling proud of all that you have accomplished. Looking at your child, you may feel so much love and respect for the person that they are becoming. Thanks to your efforts, they might be growing into kind, respectful, enigmatic individuals. If this is the case, you might want to consider how much of that is due to your teachings. Feeling proud of your children can be important, but so can acknowledging your own successes along the way.
Although you cannot stop the passage of time, you may be able to limit some of the negative emotions that coincide with it. In doing so, you may be able to find ways to be more present in your children’s lives and even gain some additional positivity.
