Get ready for a summer of fun with High 5 holiday camps and sports

Wondering how to keep your children entertained in the long school holidays, especially if you’re working? High 5 Holiday Camps in Plymouth provide the perfect answer.

This is a collaborative post

The six weeks school summer holiday can be a nightmare for working parents – and let’s face it, also if you’re not working!

Sorting childcare for that long a period is a massive juggle. And even if you’re not working, trying to come up with ways to keep your kids busy, entertained and off their screens can be just as tricky.

So that’s where High 5 can help you out. They run not only daily holiday clubs at local schools, they also hold various sports camps too – there really is something that all children will love.

My boys have been to High 5 at their own school for the last 3 years and loved it. They’re already asking if they can go again this summer – and the answer is definitely yes!

High 5 are putting on holiday camps for the whole six weeks’ holiday and with 8 different venues in and around Plymouth there’s bound to be something that’s suitable for you.

Their Around The World in 30 Days theme is so popular they are sticking with it, but mixing up the activities so children will always experience something new even if they’ve been to High 5 before.

Where High 5 holiday camps are being run

The camps are being run at:

  • Elburton Primary School
  • Mount Kelly Prep School
  • Widey Court Primary
  • Plymouth College
  • Pomphlett Primary School
  • Stowford Primary School
  • Stover School
  • China Fleet Country Club

Kids are invited to pack their suitcases and get ready to experience an epic round the world extravaganza, each week ‘visiting’ a different part of the world and doing activities related to that area. They will be landing in Paris for a week of Olympic inspiration, then onto Hawaii, Japan, India, Nepal, Africa, South America even the Arctic Circle!

These will include sports, challenges, and activities based on the Around The World Theme, creative and rewarding arts and crafts, inflatable days, and even swimming and water fun depending on the venue.

Children will not only have their confidence boosted, learn new skills, face their fears, challenge themselves and make friends, but they’ll make memories to last a lifetime along the way. At the same time as having LOADS of fun!

High 5 Holiday Camps cater for all ages

High 5 Holiday Camps are open to children aged from 5 to 12 and operate in different age groups:

  • Rookies for 5 to 7 year olds

High 5 recognise that for this age group, being away from parents can be a new and sometimes daunting experience so Rookies staff are specialists in Key Stage 1 childcare with Childcare, Play work or Qualified Teacher Status so they are in the best possible hands.

Each week at camp they also deliver small bite size chunks of Ronni Heath’s FUNdamental Multi Skills Activity, as well as teaching basic First Aid, Expeditions Skills, Knot and Rope Work and Mountain Medicine on top of all the other fun activities and sports on offer.

  • Semi Pros for 8 to 9 year olds

All campers who are 8 and over can access pretty much all High 5’s additional activities including those which run off-site. High 5 offer over 30 different sports on-site as well as working with local providers to bring new activities and experiences for children to try for the first time. If your kids aren’t massively keen on sports though, there are also loads of creative activities to try.

Survival Steve is also around to teach the youngsters Bush Craft and Survival activities which sound great!

  • The Pros for 10 to 12 year olds

Many of the older campers are already at secondary school or about to start, so High 5 give them much more freedom to express themselves and take part in the activities which interest them the most.

The team will encourage them to step outside their comfort zone and get stuck in. They also get their own common room, separate from the younger kids. In that room is a Bottle Flipping Tower Challenge, a table tennis table and sound system for their own music.

Help is at hand for younger or nervous children

Standard days run from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, but if you need your children to stay longer then you can choose the Extended Day option which allows you to drop them off at 8am and pick them up again at 6pm.

For those children who might be going to High 5 for the first time or are a little nervous, staff operate a ‘buddy system’ where they can team campers up with some more experienced children to help them settle in.

If your children are younger than 5, but still want to join in the fun, High 5 are running special minis camps at Plymouth College and Widey Court Primary, especially for 3 to 5 year olds.

Sports Camps run by High 5

As well as the 6 weeks of holiday camps, High 5 is also running a number of sports camps this summer – and believe me, they are awesome!

If you don’t necessarily need a holiday camp as such, but still want your youngsters to have loads of fun, then why not look at one of their sports camps. You’ll not be surprised to hear that my eldest is booked in for their basketball sessions!

Slam Dunk Basketball Camp

They are led by Basketball England qualified coaches and PE teachers, and help the youngsters develop their skills at the same time as having loads of fun. They’ll be working on their dribbling, shooting, passing and footwork, as well as taking part in games and challenges, matches and mini tournaments. LeBron James, eat your heart out!

Sport and Adventure Residential Camps

Fancy going one step further and enrolling your child onto a five-day residential camp this summer? High 5 are running their Sport and Adventure Residential Camps for children in Years 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. They take place at Stover School and there’s a choice between four different sport-themed camps hosted by expert coaches – football, tennis, golf or multi-sport. Each camp combines coaching with Dartmoor and coastal adventure, with excellent accommodation, food and facilities.
