Fitbit Charge 5 for kids – how they promote a healthy lifestyle

Having an activity tracker for your children can be a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle and add a fun element to their habits. One of the best manufacturers of smartwatches and activity trackers that are also suitable for children is Fitbit. They not only make a dedicated activity tracker for young children, there’s also great options for teens such as the Fitbit Charge 5.

This is a collaborative post

Fitbit Charge 5 is great for teenagers

There are a few Fitbit watches that have different age recommendations. The Fitbit Charge 5 may not be suited for younger children, but can certainly be a great addition to the healthy lifestyle of a teenager. Here’s some smartwatches by Fitbit and their age recommendations:

  • Fitbit Ace 3: Ages 6 to 10
  • Fitbit Inspire 3: Age 10+
  • Fitbit Charge 5: Age 12+

The Fitbit Charge 5 is not specifically designed for children, but it’s a robust tracker with good features for the relatively low price. You can find Fitbit Charge 5 straps in different sizes to match those with smaller wrists. It also helps to find a strap your child likes, to encourage wearing the watch.

Why should I get a Fitbit for my child

A Fitbit can really help your child if they live an active lifestyle. And even if they aren’t an avid athlete, an activity tracker will still give benefits. There’s also features like sleep monitors, stress monitors, and GPS. So what benefits will the Fitbit Charge 5 give your teenager?

Encouraging healthy habits

The Fitbit Charge 5 will help to encourage and maintain a healthy lifestyle. There are many different sports modes, which will help you keep stats about your workouts and sports. But even for those who don’t do sports that often, the Fitbit Charge 5 can help with things like the sleep monitor and calorie intake.

Getting enough sleep is vital to a healthy lifestyle, especially for teenagers. The sleep monitor keeps track of time slept, deep sleep cycles, and activity during sleep. It can help identify problems with sleeping or improve sleep in general.

Safety

The Fitbit Charge 5 features an inbuilt GPS. This means you could find their position at all times even when they’re not carrying a smartphone. The Fitbit charge 5 does not come with any SOS features.

For SOS features, like calling emergency services, you’ll have to move up a tier in price and features. Something like the Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch would suffice here. The higher end models of Fitbit itself also do not have SOS features.

Family account

The Fitbit line-up comes with a special family account. With this account you’ll be able to challenge each other and earn virtual trophies. Through competitions you’ll keep each other fit and challenge each other competitively.

Group challenges are a great way to motivate each other’s healthy lifestyles. They’re also available for others who have Fitbit devices, such as your teen’s friends. Who they connect with is controlled by the parent.

Setting goals

Certain goals can be set in order to stimulate a healthy lifestyle and view progress as well. There’s a few different goals to select, and one can always be set as the main goal. Some goals are:

– Daily activity: Includes steps, active minutes, calories burned, or distance travelled.

– Sleep: Set goals which reminds you to sleep, hours slept, and R.E.M. time.

– Water: Daily water consumption goals.

– Mindfulness: Time to relax and be away from screens.

A Fitbit Charge 5 – In summary

A Fitbit Charge 5 can be a great addition to your teen’s life especially if they are avid athletes or could use reminders about water consumption, sleep, or medicine. It can encourage healthy habits and give a more competitive mindset. Make sure to pick out a nice quality Fitbit Charge 5 strap with your teen if you purchase a Charge 5.
