Unless you are someone who has moved around a lot, the chances are that you will have only bought new bedroom furniture a handful of times in your life.
This is a collaborative post. So I may have received payment for including one or more of its links.
As a rule, bedroom furniture sets are built to last and can work well for several years, until you want to update the style or make changes. As it is something that is done so infrequently, updating bedroom furniture can feel like something that is quite overwhelming. For instance, do you know the difference between a dresser or a chest of drawers, or a bedside table and a nightstand?
If you are looking to update your bedroom furniture, then what are the things that you need to think about and consider?
Here are some suggestions to help you to choose bedroom furniture sets that are going to last and suit your needs and your budget.
Consider the available bedroom space
One of the first things that you need to think about is the bedroom space that you have available. When you know what space you are working with, it can help you make decisions around which furniture to get.
A super king-size bed isn’t going to fit in a bedroom that is a little on the smaller side, for example. All of this means that one of the first things that you need to do is measure the space. When you start to shop around for bedroom furniture sets, you can check the measurements to see if they would work well in the space that you have available. If you don’t have enough room for a TV cabinet in your room, when you’re considering what sort of bed to get, why not look at Stone TV beds. You can kill two birds with one stone – a TV that comes out of the footboard of your bed to save space!
Consider the style of the bedroom furniture
The next consideration when choosing bedroom furniture is thinking about the style that you want for the furniture. Have you thought about the style that you would like, such as a traditional style sleigh bed, or would you prefer a modern low bed? Or have you considered going for Retro Furniture?
Are you planning to redecorate and need the furniture to match or are you simply replacing the furniture? Think about modern styles, traditional styles, and everything in between. If you are just getting a new bed, then think about what will go with your other pieces in the room, like the bedside units and existing wardrobes.
Consider your budget for bedroom furniture
You may have grand plans for your new bedroom furniture, and that is great if you have the budget to go along with it. It can be hard shopping for bedroom furniture if you don’t know what kind of budget you have to spend. Consider what will work best for your situation, as a range of retailers offer finance on bedroom furniture (but that doesn’t obviously work if you can’t afford it in the first place). Work out what you need to get and what you can afford to spend on each item.
You should also bear in mind that there may be some additional costs to getting your furniture. For larger and bulky items like furniture, there can be large shipping costs at some places. You should also consider if you need to get new items, like getting a new mattress for the new bed. This should all be added into the budget when making your plans.
Consider what accessories or extras you might like alongside your bedroom furniture
If you want to update your bedroom furniture, then think about what accessories you might like to get as well. There are some beds that you can get that have built-in speakers or a TV built-in at the end of the bed. You might want to get a dressing table with built-in lighting or a way to easily connect to a plug, so that it can light up. If you want certain extras or additions like these, then often they can’t be added in after, without expensive changes. So plan out what kind of additions you’d like to have in the bedroom, along with your bedroom furniture, and it can be part of the planning and budgeting process.
Consider bedroom storage
One thing that is common with everyone is that there is never enough storage space in a home. When it comes to the bedroom, there can be a lack of storage space there too. That is why one consideration when choosing bedroom furniture should be storage and if you need more. An ottoman bed could solve this problem, or a larger chest of drawers or a wardrobe that goes closer to the ceiling than before, allowing a little extra storage space.
Taking these five areas into consideration will help you to choose the bedroom furniture sets that are ideal for you. Happy shopping!
