I’m Helen Copson, a multi-award-winning blogger and mum of three boys based in Plymouth, Devon, UK. If you’ve read any of my stuff, you may have noticed I like to say it how it is.
Life got a little bit hectic in June 2017 when I had twins just two days before my toddler’s second birthday. Three under three and all boys – think that’s known as Sod’s Law. Obviously I wanted at least one girl.
Twins, Tantrums and Cold Coffee started as blog about my life with the boys and how ridiculous it can be some days dealing with such young children – often on my own as my husband works away regularly.
There’s no sugar-coating it, as much as I love them dearly, it was (and still is) hard work, and drives me to swear under my breath A LOT. Usually when I was wiping one twin’s shitty bum, the eldest is shouting for me to inspect his latest Lego creation, and I realise the other twin is walking precariously along the windowsill.
A few years on, and now they’re all at school (thank God – total gamechanger!) But dealing with the INCESSANT fighting, and general dicking about with three boys is sometimes just as hard as the early days. And who knew boys could have such ATTITUDE?
But I’m still blogging, and still love it.
I’m NOT a crafter of any kind, or profess to be any kind of expert. I try to offer a few ‘tips and tricks’ on things I’ve learned along the way though. Take these with as many pinches of salt as you like. I’m as normal and winging it as the rest of you.
But if you like reality, a bit of swearing, a lot of sarcasm, and above all HONESTY, then maybe you’ll enjoy what you read. If I’m anything at all, I’d like to think I’m relatable – I’ve not met a mum yet who hasn’t used screen time to get stuff done or even drink their coffee only vaguely warm. So you’re definitely not alone if your life resembles mine.
I have a background in journalism, having spent nearly 15 years as a reporter and deputy news editor at the Plymouth Herald newspaper and still write for their sister paper, the Western Morning News, as a columnist. I also still freelance as a journalist.
I have also been travel writing for over 15 years. Sadly the days of adult only five star trips to Bangkok and Barcelona have made way for family breaks to Butlins and Bluestone, but I still love reviewing holiday destinations and days out, albeit it they’re not quite so relaxing anymore.
Oh and I won the Britmums Brilliance in Blogging 2018 ‘Fresh Voice’ Award which was kind of cool after only blogging for 10 months. I then won the ‘Readers’ Choice’ category in the 2019 awards too, which I was even more shocked about! Then there was the Baby and Toddler Influencer of the Year in the MAD Blog 2020 Awards which were delayed until 2021, and more recently the Luxlife Parenting Lifestyle Blogger of the Year 2023 – SW England.
So that was all very exciting.
If you’re like me and are a little bit addicted to social media, you can find me on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Twitter and Pinterest. And why not join my Facebook group Twins, Tantrums and Cold Coffee – Shits and Giggles Parenting Group where you can share your kids-related shenanigans too.
So there you have it. Welcome to my sweary, sarcastic, and honest account of life with twins and their older brother. Hope you enjoy it.
(Sorry about the swearing. They drive me to it…)
